Cargill entered the Turkish marketplace in 1960 with local partners, and from 1986 has been operating under its own name. Cargill has been active in Turkey since 1960 through a local partnership agreement and commenced trading as Cargill in 1986. The company has nearly 300 employees in four locations in Turkey - in Baglarbasi-Istanbul, Yarımca, Orhangazi and Pendik Vanikoy. The Cargill Turkey head office, which opened in 1992, is located in Istanbul. Cargill operates in four major sectors – food, finance, oilseeds and steel.Cargill has activities in the following areas in Turkey: • production and sales of starch and starch derivatives
• grain and oilseed trading
• trading and distribution of steel mill consumables and products
• value investment
Recent Cargill investments in Turkey 2002 - Cargill acquired Cerestar - a leading provider of starch and starch derivatives – and with it Cerestar’s 50 percent shareholding in Pendik Industry (PNS) and its corn wet milling plant in Istanbul. 2000 - Cargill commences production at its wet corn milling facility in Orhangazi.1999 - Cargill began operating a grain storage silo and port facilities in Yarimca in cooperation with Rota Denizcilik ve Ticaret A.S.1997 - Cargill began its iron and steel trading operations in the country.1994 - The Emerging Markets Division is established to operate in financial markets.1992 - The new head office is opened in Istanbul.1989 - Cargill purchases Vanikoy maize wet corn milling facility located in Pendik Istanbul to produce glucose sweeteners and starches.
